Introduction

Kenny obtained a degree in his native Scotland before moving to Peru to work with an international development NGO, as Regional Director for Latin America. He was based in Latin America for 7 years, specialising in work with isolated, indigenous communities across the region, supporting local people to design and implement sustainable and practical development projects. Kenny returned to the UK in 2009 where he led the development of WeFarm as part of a UK charity’s start-up initiative. There are now 52,000 farmers using WeFarm in Kenya, Uganda and Peru to share information on agriculture and improve their livelihoods. More than 7m pieces of information have been shared through the world’s first peer-to-peer SMS network.
