Smarter City, Smarter Policy: Crowd Monitoring

Peter Rakers

Peter will explain how can cities can innovate by drawing new insights on mobility, security, and marketing based on crowd monitoring. Based on mobile device connections and correlation opportunities with other (open) data sources, cities can actually become smarter.

One example is how Cropland monitored crowds at a series of public events in Antwerp, including a sports event with very high density crowds during one day. Cropland analysed mobile data sets and proposed a methodology to get the crowd to and from the event with least interaction and inconvenience for the local population, improving local security.

By sharing fascinating case studies, Peter will demonstrate the diverse scenarios where cities can harness crowd monitoring and the results that can be achieved.
