A world without the Internet is unimaginable. Thank you, Tim Berners-Lee. Currently connecting around 4.3 billion people worldwide, which represents 57% of the total world population, the Internet is a core pillar of the modern information society. The highest usage levels are in North America and Northern Europe where 95% of people use it.
What’s of concern, though, is what we use it for. Did you know that the collective time spent so far by people watching Gangnam Style on YouTube since July 2012 is the equivalent of the man-hours it would have taken to build 20 Empire State Buildings? What kind of legacy is mass use of the Internet going to leave us with?
